FAQs
How are mentors and protégés paired?
The mentors are selected first, and then participate in the selection process for the protégés. Mentors and protégés will be paired using holistic criteria to ensure a proper fit. This means that we will not simply be pairing a painter with a painter. We are focused on nurturing the whole artist, so emphasis is placed on personality, demeanor, background, interests, vibes, and the intangible person to person connection.
How much will I be compensated?
Mentors:
Protégé selection process: $200-$400 depending on number of applicants.
Finalization of curriculum: $25/hr for a maximum of 8 hours.
Participation in 10 week program: $2,000
COMPENSATION IS THE SAME FOR AN INDIVIDUAL ARTIST AS A PAIR. FOR EXAMPLE, FOR THE 10 WEEK PORTION AN INDIVIDUAL ARTIST WILL RECEIVE $2,000, AND IF YOU ARE WORKING AS PART OF PAIR, THE TOTAL COMPENSATION WILL REMAIN $2,000, TO BE SPLIT AMONGST YOURSELVES AS YOU SEE FIT. THE SAME IS TRUE FOR THE PROTEGE SELECTION PROCESS, AND CURRICULUM FINALIZATION FEES.
Protégés:
$500 Honorarium
Final art projects are also fully funded, and food will be provided for activities that occur during meal times, such as the bootcamp.
What if I don’t have a car?
Assistance with transportation is available within the Charlotte area.
Do I have to be able to attend all the curriculum sessions and events to participate?
Ideally, yes, your participation is important. However, if you already have a conflict on your schedule, email us to discuss whether or not it would be prohibitive to your participation. Full attendance at the Bootcamp is required.
How strict are the age requirements?
Protégés MUST be 18 as of January 21st, 2022. If you’re slightly older than 23 and really want to participate, reach out to us and we’ll talk.
Where will the final art exhibition be held?
The location of the installation will be determined by the scope and needs of the work that the mentor/protégé cohort decides to create.
What will the theme of the final art project be?
The theme of the final project will be collaboratively determined by the mentors and protégés during the bootcamp.
What art forms are eligible to apply?
ALL forms of creative expression are eligible.
Is there a support system in place for mentors?
Yes. There is a support team that will be doing weekly check-ins and be available for consultation as needs arise.
How much experience do I need to apply?
Mentors: Mentors need to be established artists with a significant portion of their practice dedicated to helping the community. Mentoring experience is not required.
Protégés: Protégés need to have work samples, be pursuing a career in the arts, and have a genuine interest in helping their community through their work.
